The village

Steventon is on the edge of the Berkshire Downs with the villages of Drayton to the north, Milton to the east, Harwell to the south and East Hanney to the west. Various footpaths to the Downs and surrounding area leave the village. The Ridgeway is about two miles away.

Steventon has all you need to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.

  • Pubs - The Fox and The Cherry Tree serve good food and are within easy walking distance on the main road. The North Star is along the Causeway towards the church or, a short car drive away, is The Pack Horse on Milton Hill.
  • Restaurants - the Blue Ginger Indian Restaurant is a short walk along the main road.
  • Fast food - McDonald's is about a mile and a half away, just off the Milton Interchange on the A4130 to Didcot.

The parish church of St Michael & All Angels was built in the 14th century by the Flemings (Steventon was an important centre for the cloth industry in the Middle Ages).

Steventon Parish Church

Some half-timbered houses can be seen along the raised Causeway. This runs for about a mile from the village green to the church and was built by Benedictine monks from the local priory. All that is left of the priory is Priory Cottages - now owned by the National Trust.
